Years ago, a friend from high school emailed me asking what pedal she should buy her husband for christmas. Knowing his penchant for tinkering with the guts of his guitars, I recommended perhaps getting a pedal kit so he could build his own.
Six months later, he had built dozens of pedals. He was constantly breadboarding, looking at schematics, learning and exploring. Suddenly he was building and repairing pedals for piles of local musicians. His gear collection grew rapidly. I was certain his wife hated me 😉
